About The Rocks Walking Tour

Step back in time and discover the fascinating history of Sydney's oldest neighborhood on The Rocks Walking Tour. This 90-minute guided experience takes you through the cobblestone lanes, historic buildings, and hidden pathways of the area where European settlement in Australia began in 1788. Led by expert local guides with a passion for history and storytelling, this tour brings to life the colorful past of The Rocks. You'll hear tales of the convicts, sailors, smugglers, and rogues who once called these streets home, and learn how this area transformed from a rough colonial settlement to one of Sydney's most charming historic precincts. As you wander through narrow laneways and along sandstone walls that have stood for over 200 years, your guide will point out architectural details and share stories that you'd never discover on your own. Visit historic pubs where sailors and convicts once drank, see former warehouses now converted to boutiques and galleries, and discover hidden courtyards and viewpoints offering spectacular vistas of Sydney Harbour. The tour includes stops at significant historical sites such as Cadman's Cottage (Sydney's oldest surviving residential building), the Garrison Church, Foundation Park, and Susannah Place Museum. Throughout the journey, you'll gain insights into both the European settlement history and the enduring connection of the Gadigal people, the traditional owners of the land. With your Sydney Super Pass, this guided walking tour is completely included (normally priced at $35), offering an enriching and entertaining introduction to Sydney's colonial origins and the birthplace of modern Australia.

Fantastic tour with our guide Sarah! She was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the history of The Rocks to life with her engaging stories. We discovered hidden laneways and viewpoints we would never have found on our own. Using our Super Pass for this tour was a great value. Comfortable walking pace and plenty of stops along the way. Highly recommend doing this early in your Sydney visit!

This walking tour was the perfect introduction to Sydney's history. Our guide Michael was passionate and entertaining, mixing historical facts with amusing anecdotes. The 90-minute duration was just right - not too long or short. We appreciated the small group size which allowed for questions and a more personal experience. The Super Pass made this completely free which was a wonderful bonus!
